back to the topMore About McDermott & Miller
McDermott & Miller, P.C. is a regional accounting firm with offices in Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney and Omaha, Nebraska.
Established in 1973, the firm has grown to 70-75 employees including 14 shareholders. Considering the Final 4, and large regional firms are headquartered outside the state, McDermott & Miller probably is the largest CPA firm within the state.
The firm practices in all the traditional areas of accounting, auditing, tax, bookkeeping, payroll, etc. In addition specialty areas include: business valuation, cafeteria plan administration, estate planning, computer consulting, family business and succession planning, management consulting, pension plan accounting, medical and dental practice management and litigation support.
Each office has one shareholder who specializes, almost exclusively, in the tax area. The other employees and shareholders practice in the tax, audit, accounting or related specialty areas. Obviously, no one can practice in all of these areas but because of the nature of the firm's practice, individuals must be able to participate in more than one area.
The firm does not have "forced turnover" rather their philosophy is that they would rather have the same accountant work with their clients year after year instead of having the clients train their personnel every year or two. Simply stated " the firm wants to employ personnel who have a long term view of their career and employment." In turn the firm will provide an atmosphere in which it's employees can excel and enjoy both their career and their quality of life.
The firm's shareholders have a "family" business attitude toward their practice. This attitude is incorporated into the firm's mission statement which states " As a public accounting firm, it is McDermott & Miller P.C.'s primary mission to provide a perpetual organization and climate that will address the needs of clients, staff and shareholders thereby contributing to their future success."
